Plum Review

Plum is a strong choice when you want a job-fit score at the hiring decision and you already buy from Phenom, and a weaker one when development across the whole workforce is the goal. Its 25-minute Discovery Survey combines Big Five personality, problem solving and social intelligence into ten Talents and a match score for each role. Phenom acquired Plum in April 2026, so Plum is now sold as part of Phenom's hiring platform rather than on its own.

What is Plum best at?

Matching candidates to a role at the hiring decision. Plum asks each candidate to complete one survey, turns the results into ten Talents, and scores how well a person matches the Talents a role needs. It suits high-applicant roles where resumes say little, such as early-career and campus hiring, and organizations already running Phenom's talent platform.

What does the platform include?

  • The Plum Discovery Survey: one untimed assessment of about 25 minutes covering personality, problem solving and social intelligence, which candidates can pause and resume

  • Ten Plum Talents calculated from those results, with a match score against each role's Talent profile

  • Role profiles ("Role Model" in Phenom's description) that map the Talents a job needs; Phenom says the technology draws on 40,000+ real-world jobs

  • Since April 2026: delivery inside Phenom's agentic hiring platform, alongside Be Applied (acquired February 2026), as part of what Phenom calls a full-spectrum assessment stack

Pricing is quoted on request. Expect it to be bundled into broader Phenom agreements after the acquisition.

What science is it built on?

Plum states that its Talents are built on the Big Five personality model, combined with a problem-solving measure and a social intelligence measure. Results are reported as ten Talents rather than as Big Five scores, so the underlying traits aren't shown directly. Phenom says every Plum assessment is independently audited with large-scale candidate data for adverse impact across demographic groups. Ask for the technical manual and the adverse-impact audit for the roles you plan to use it on.

How is Plum priced?

Plum doesn't publish rates. Historically it priced by volume, with custom enterprise quotes. After the Phenom acquisition, buyers should expect Plum to be quoted as part of a Phenom platform deal, which makes a standalone cost harder to isolate.

Where Plum is strong

  • A single job-fit score that is simple for recruiters to use at volume

  • Personality, problem solving and social intelligence in one candidate experience

  • A candidate-friendly format: untimed, about 25 minutes, and can be paused

  • Independent adverse-impact auditing, per Phenom

  • Native fit for Phenom customers, with assessment running inside the same hiring workflow

Where Plum runs out

  • Its center of gravity is the hire. The match score ranks candidates for a role; it isn't built to guide how a person works once they're in the job.

  • Results arrive as ten Talents, not as the Big Five traits underneath. Buyers who need trait- or facet-level detail for development should ask what sits beneath each Talent.

  • Plum is no longer an independent vendor. Roadmap and pricing now follow Phenom's priorities, which center on hiring and AI-era candidate verification.

  • Post-hire use is described in general terms (onboarding, career pathing, coaching) rather than as a dedicated development product for every employee.

  • Pricing isn't published, and bundling into Phenom deals makes whole-workforce coverage hard to model.

Who should choose Plum?

Choose Plum if you already run or are evaluating Phenom, you hire into high-applicant roles where resumes don't separate candidates, and a job-fit score at the hiring decision is what you need.

When is We by Paradigm the better fit?

When the question is what happens after the hire: development that reaches every employee in the flow of work, on one validated Big Five instrument with 23 subtraits you can see directly, with HR governance and organization-level analytics. Many organizations keep a pre-hire screen such as Plum and add We as the layer that carries personality insight into the work.
