What is Wonderlic best at?
Screening at the hiring decision. Wonderlic Select gives hiring teams one standardized score across cognitive ability, personality, and motivation, designed to work out of the box without role-by-role customization or certification. If you hire at volume and want a consistent, quick signal early in the funnel, Wonderlic is a well-known, well-supported answer.
What does the platform include?
Wonderlic Select—pre-employment assessment measuring cognitive ability, personality, and motivation, combined into one score
Wonderlic Develop—employee development with individual profiles, role cards, growth plans, and an action planner
Team Dynamics—Develop applied at the team level through a team report
Wonderlic Certification—a learning resource on applying Wonderlic results in hiring and development decisions
Pricing is quoted on request; Wonderlic does not publish rates.
What science is it built on?
Wonderlic’s cognitive ability testing is its longest-standing instrument. Wonderlic states that its personality component is based on the Five-Factor Model and reports five work-related characteristics: cooperation, dependability, stress tolerance, sociability, and open-mindedness. Motivation is measured separately, as alignment between a person’s interests and the work. Validity evidence is published by Wonderlic; ask for the technical documentation for the specific scales and roles you plan to use.
Where Wonderlic is strong
One of the longest track records in pre-hire testing, with brand recognition among hiring teams
A single combined score that is simple to use at volume
Cognitive ability, personality, and motivation in one candidate experience
Off-the-shelf: no role customization or certification required to start
A development line (Develop and Team Dynamics) for organizations that want to stay with one vendor after the hire
Where Wonderlic runs out
Its center of gravity is the hire. The combined score is built to rank candidates, which is a different job from guiding how a person works once they’re in the role.
Personality is reported as five broad characteristics. Buyers who need facet-level detail for development should ask what sits beneath them and how it is validated.
Cognitive ability testing draws adverse-impact scrutiny. Ask for adverse-impact data for your roles and populations before using it as a gate.
Pricing isn’t published, which makes whole-workforce coverage harder to model before a sales conversation.
Who should choose Wonderlic?
Choose Wonderlic if hiring at volume is your primary problem, you want cognitive ability in the screen, and a single, standardized score fits your process better than a role-by-role build.
When is We by Paradigm the better fit?
When the goal is what happens after the hire: development that reaches every employee in the flow of work, on one validated Big Five instrument with 23 subtraits, with HR governance and organization-level analytics. Many organizations keep a pre-hire screen and add We as the layer that carries insight into the work.
