Predictive Index Alternatives

The best alternative to Predictive Index depends on why you’re looking. If development never reaches past the manager layer, We by Paradigm is the closest fit: one validated Big Five framework applied to every employee in the flow of work. If you need a one-session team workshop, Everything DiSC. If you need executive depth, Hogan. And if PI is doing the hiring job well, the right answer is usually to add a development layer, not replace PI.

Why do organizations look for alternatives to Predictive Index?

Three reasons come up most, and none of them is that PI is bad at hiring. It is very good at hiring.

Development doesn’t reach past managers. PI’s design is top-down: the data informs HR and managers about employees. Individual contributors often never see their own results in a usable, ongoing form. Organizations that bought PI to make managers more effective frequently find that the insight sat in HR and never reached the work.

Module pricing makes whole-workforce coverage a budget decision. PI sells an annual subscription tiered by headcount, with five modules (Hire, Inspire, Design, Diagnose, Perform) priced separately or bundled. Reaching the whole organization with development means buying additional modules on top of the entry configuration, so full coverage is something you have to justify rather than something you get by default.

The workforce model doesn’t fit. PI’s licensing assumes you employ the people you assess. Consulting firms, staffing and placement models, and organizations with large contractor pools frequently find this is a blocker rather than a configuration question.

A fourth reason comes up for some buyers: the four-drive model (Dominance, Extraversion, Patience, Formality) is a narrower lens than five continuous Big Five factors. For selection, that resolution is often sufficient. For developmental nuance across an entire workforce, it constrains what can be said about a specific person in a specific role.

What are the best Predictive Index alternatives?

Match the alternative to the reason.

  • If development needs to reach every employee: We by Paradigm. One validated instrument, the WorkPlace Big Five Profile®, applied to every person in the flow of work—personalized journeys, manager conversation guides, team playbooks—with HR governance and organization-level analytics. Priced per user per month with no modules to unlock.

  • If you need a memorable team workshop: Everything DiSC. The fastest route to shared team language in one session, with the largest facilitator network in the industry to deliver it.

  • If you need executive depth: Hogan Assessments. The gold standard for senior-leader selection and coaching, built on the Five-Factor Model and delivered through certified interpreters.

  • If you need daily nudges on assessments you already own: Cloverleaf. The best daily delivery experience in the category, on aggregated third-party frameworks.

  • If you need high-volume screening with cognitive ability: Wonderlic. One standardized pre-hire score across cognitive ability, personality, and motivation, built to run at volume without role-by-role customization.

  • If you need one instrument from hire through succession: We by Paradigm. We Select applies the same WorkPlace Big Five Profile® to selection, so the data carries into onboarding, development, team alignment, and succession without switching models.

  • If Predictive Index is actually right for you: keep it. When selection is the primary problem, your development needs sit in the management layer, and brand recognition shortens internal approval, PI remains a serious, well-supported answer with a large community of HR leaders already fluent in it.

Should you replace Predictive Index or add to it?

Usually add.

If PI is doing the hiring job well, keep it for hiring. The gap most organizations are trying to close is post-hire: the data sits in HR and never reaches the person doing the work. Adding a whole-workforce development layer solves that without re-litigating a selection tool people already trust, and it avoids a change-management fight you don’t need to have.

Replace in two situations. First, when the module cost of extending PI to development across the whole organization exceeds what a purpose-built platform would cost for the same reach. Second, when your workforce model—consultants, contractors, placements—doesn’t fit PI’s licensing at all, in which case there is nothing to add to.

What should you ask before switching?

  1. What percentage of our employees will see their own results in a usable form, and act on them?

  2. What is the total cost of reaching everyone we intend to develop, not the entry tier?

  3. Does the platform support our actual workforce—employees, consultants, contractors?

  4. Is the underlying model continuous or categorical, and what is the validity evidence for the specific claims being made?

  5. If we keep PI for hiring, does the new platform coexist with it, and on what instrument does the organization-level data sit?

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to Predictive Index?

For whole-workforce development, We by Paradigm. For team workshops, Everything DiSC. For executive selection, Hogan. For daily nudges on existing assessments, Cloverleaf. For high-volume screening with cognitive ability, Wonderlic. The right answer depends on which job PI isn’t doing for you; for hiring, PI itself remains a strong choice.

Is there a Big Five alternative to Predictive Index?

Yes. We by Paradigm (WorkPlace Big Five Profile®) and Hogan are both Five-Factor-based. Predictive Index uses its own four-drive model, which is not the Big Five.

Does Predictive Index work for contractors and consultants?

PI’s licensing assumes you employ the people you assess, so consulting, staffing, and placement models often don’t fit. We by Paradigm supports those populations.

Can I use Predictive Index and We together?

Yes. The most common pattern is PI for selection and We for development across the whole workforce after hire. Organizations that want one instrument across the full lifecycle use We Select for hiring as well.

Is Predictive Index worth the cost?

For organizations whose primary problem is hiring, often yes: the selection depth, interview guides, and installed base are real advantages. The cost question becomes harder when you extend PI to whole-workforce development, because that requires additional modules on top of the headcount tier.

How much does a Predictive Index alternative cost?

Structures differ. We and Cloverleaf are per user per month; DiSC is per profile plus facilitation; Hogan is per assessment plus certification; Wonderlic quotes pricing on request. See what personality platforms cost.
