Head-to-Head

We vs. DiSC

We and DiSC are built for different jobs. Everything DiSC is built to give a team a shared language in a single facilitated workshop. We by Paradigm is built to apply one validated Big Five framework to every employee, every day, with organization-level analytics. If your primary need is a memorable team session, DiSC is the better fit. If it’s continuous development across the whole workforce, We is.

What’s the core difference between We and DiSC?

The difference is structural, not feature-level.

Everything DiSC is a categorical model. It assigns each person one of four primary styles—Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, Conscientiousness—and delivers the results through a certified facilitator in a workshop. Wiley’s revenue depends on that facilitator network, so delivery is bound to the session by design. The insight is strongest in the room and weakest the following Monday.

We is a continuous-trait model. The WorkPlace Big Five Profile® measures five supertraits and 23 subtraits on the Five-Factor Model, the scientific consensus in personality research, applied to workplace decisions and used in 28 countries. Results are delivered inside the platform—personalized journeys for each employee, conversation guides for managers, playbooks for teams—so the platform works on day one without a facilitator, and because everyone is on the same instrument, the data aggregates into an organizational view.

One is an event. The other is a layer.

How do We and DiSC compare on the five criteria?

Criterion

Everything DiSC

We by Paradigm

Scientific foundation

Four categorical styles (D, i, S, C). Reasonable psychometric support for what it measures.

WorkPlace Big Five Profile®: Five-Factor Model, 5 supertraits and 23 subtraits, 40+ years of research, applied to workplace decisions.

Workforce reach

Teams that attend a workshop.

Every employee, new hire to senior leader, on the same instrument and scale.

Delivery model

Certified facilitator leads a session; insight lives in the workbook afterward.

Personalized journeys, manager conversation guides, and team playbooks in the platform, ready before the meeting.

Governance and data

Event-level. Four styles don’t aggregate into an organizational view.

HR controls who is assessed and what is visible; one instrument yields apples-to-apples analytics across teams, roles, and geographies.

Cost structure

Per profile, plus facilitator time, room, and the working hours of everyone attending.

Per user per month; no certification or facilitator fees; year-two renewal held flat unless headcount changes meaningfully.

Time to value

Same afternoon.

Typical launch: days, not months, then continuous.

Durability

Teams commonly report the vocabulary is gone by month three.

Built to avoid the month-six drop-off.

When is DiSC the better choice?

Choose Everything DiSC when a Head of L&D or a team leader needs a defined group—a new leadership team, two merged departments, a project group—to leave one session with a shared vocabulary and real energy. It is the right call when you have facilitation capacity or budget, when the population is bounded, and when the goal is a memorable event rather than a continuous organizational capability.

No other tool in the category converts a single session into common language as efficiently. People remember their style years later, the facilitator network means you can source delivery anywhere, and a deep installed base means many employees arrive already familiar with the model.

When is We the better choice?

Choose We by Paradigm when a CHRO, Head of Talent, or Head of L&D needs:

  • Reach. Development that gets to the 85% of the workforce your programs never touch, not just the managers who attend offsites.

  • Application without a facilitator. Insight that shows up in the 1:1 on Monday—a conversation guide prepared from both people’s profiles—with no one scheduling a room.

  • Data that aggregates. An answer to “what does our manager population look like, compared to the teams they lead?” that holds up in front of a CFO.

  • One instrument across the lifecycle. The same validated framework from selection through onboarding, development, team alignment, and succession.

  • Fit for non-traditional workforces. Consultants, contractors, and placement models that workshop-based tools don’t serve well.

Can you use both?

Yes, and many organizations do. DiSC for the workshop; We as the continuous layer underneath, so the insight has somewhere to live between sessions and the organization builds data over time.

The two are not competing for the same budget line as often as buyers assume. DiSC is typically funded as a program or event. We is funded as a platform. The question to ask is not “which one?” but “what happens to the insight on day two?”—and whether anything in your current stack answers it.

Frequently asked questions

Is We the same as DiSC?

No. DiSC sorts people into four styles. We by Paradigm measures each person on the Big Five’s five continuous traits and 23 subtraits using the WorkPlace Big Five Profile®, and applies the results in daily work rather than in a workshop.

Is the Big Five more accurate than DiSC?

The Five-Factor Model has the broadest peer-reviewed support in personality research and carries more resolution than a four-category model, which matters for developmental nuance and for organization-level analytics. DiSC remains effective at its own job: teaching a team a shared vocabulary quickly.

Does We require a facilitator or certification?

No. The platform delivers value on day one. Paradigm offers WorkPlace Big Five Profile® certification for people who want to go deeper on the science and its application, and 5,000+ professionals have taken it, but it is a choice, not a checkpoint.

Which is cheaper, We or DiSC?

They price differently. DiSC’s visible cost is the profile; the fully loaded cost adds facilitator time, scheduling, travel, and participant hours, and is often several times the profile price. We is per user per month with no facilitation or certification fees. Model the cost per employee who actually uses it, not the cost per license. See what personality platforms cost.

Can We replace DiSC?

For ongoing development and organizational analytics, yes. For a one-day team event, most organizations keep DiSC and add We rather than replace it.

What happens to our DiSC data if we add We?

Nothing; the two run independently. Teams that have been through DiSC typically find the Big Five language more precise, and the platform gives that language somewhere to live between sessions.
